Central Luzon’s Total Corn Production Increases in the First Quarter of 2025
The total corn production of Central Luzon for the first quarter of 2025 grew by 2.6 percent from 119.03 thousand metric tons in the first quarter of 2024 to 122.09 thousand metric tons in the first quarter of 2025. Cagayan Valley, BARMM, and Ilocos Region recorded the highest production at 501.29 thousand metric tons (20.8%), 384.96 thousand metric tons (16.0%), and 365.11 thousand metric tons (15.2%), respectively. Central Luzon ranked sixth with 122.09 metric tons, accounting for 5.1 percent of the total corn production in the country. Meanwhile, Caraga contributed the least at 0.3 percent. (Figure 1 and Table 1)

The increase in the volume of corn production in Central Luzon was mainly attributed to the increase in the production of Pampanga and Tarlac. On the other hand, Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, and Zambales, decreased at 38.8 percent, 76.2 percent, 59.3 percent, 2.0 percent, and 61.6 percent in corn production, respectively. (Table 2)

The region’s yellow corn production for the first quarter of 2025 constituted 91.2 percent of the total corn production, while 8.8 percent of the production was white corn. (Figure 2)

White corn increased from 10.21 thousand metric tons in the first quarter of 2024 to 10.77 thousand metric tons in the first quarter of 2025. Moreover, yellow corn increased from 108.81 thousand metric tons in the first quarter of 2024 to 111.32 thousand metric tons in the first quarter of 2025. (Figure 3)

Tarlac contributed more than half (57.8%) of the region's total corn production in the first quarter of 2025. Pampanga followed with 31.5 percent share. It also posted the highest increase from 29,627.22 metric tons in the first quarter of 2024 to 38,467.02 metric tons in the same quarter of 2025. The remaining 10.7 percent were comprised of shares from Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, and Bulacan. (Figures 4 and 5)

TECHNICAL NOTES
Estimates of volume of corn production are generated from the Quarterly Corn Production Survey (CPS) of which there are four survey rounds in a year, that is, January, April, July and October.
The objective of the survey is to generate estimates on corn production. The purpose of this survey is to provide data inputs for policy and programs on corn. The reference and enumeration periods by survey round are as follows:

Definition of terms
Production – refers to the quantity produced and actually harvested during the reference period. It includes those harvested but damaged, stolen, given away, consumed, given as harvester’s share, reserved, etc. Production from seed growers is excluded from the survey.
White corn – type of corn used primarily for human consumption.
Yellow corn – used generally as feed grains. It includes all types of corn other than white.
