Central Luzon’s Total Corn Production Increases in the Fourth Quarter of 2024
The total corn production of Central Luzon for the fourth quarter of 2024 grew by 0.7 percent from 8.09 thousand metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2023 to 8.14 thousand metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2024. Northern Mindanao, SOCCSKSARGEN, and Cagayan Valley recorded the highest production at 582.55 thousand metric tons (30.1%), 358.47 thousand metric tons (18.5%), and 317.65 thousand metric tons (16.4%), respectively. Central Luzon, on the other hand, had the lowest share at 0.4 percent. (Figure 1 and Table 1)

The increase in the volume of corn production in Central Luzon was mainly attributed to the increase in the production of Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, and Bulacan. On the other hand, Tarlac, Zambales, Aurora, and Bataan recorded decreases of 6.4 percent, 31.6 percent, 42.3 percent, and 47.2 percent in corn production, respectively. (Table 2)

The region’s yellow corn production for the fourth quarter of 2024 constituted 58.2 percent of the total corn production, while 41.8 percent of the production was white corn. (Figure 2)

White corn increased from 2.35 thousand metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2023 to 3.41 thousand metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2024. On the other hand, yellow corn decreased from 5.74 thousand metric tons in the fourth quarter of 2023 to 4.74 thousand metric tons in fourth quarter of 2024. (Figure 3)

Nueva Ecija contributed more than half (64.7%) of the region's total corn production in the fourth quarter of 2024. Tarlac and Pampanga had 9.9 percent and 8.1 percent shares, respectively. The remaining 17.2 percent were comprised of shares from Aurora, Bulacan, Bataan, and Zambales. (Figure 4)

TECHNICAL NOTES
Estimates of volume of corn production are generated from the Quarterly Corn Production Survey (CPS) of which there are four survey rounds in a year, that is, January, April, July and October.
The objective of the survey is to generate estimates on corn production. The purpose of this survey is to provide data inputs for policy and programs on corn. The reference and enumeration periods by survey round are as follows:

Definition of terms
Production – refers to the quantity produced and actually harvested during the reference period. It includes those harvested but damaged, stolen, given away, consumed, given as harvester’s share, reserved, etc. Production from seed growers is excluded from the survey.
White corn – type of corn used primarily for human consumption.
Yellow corn – used generally as feed grains. It includes all types of corn other than white.
