Central Luzon Consistently Topped Chicken Production in the Country

•    In January to March 2025, the total volume of chicken production in Central Luzon registered 187,921.12 metric tons, liveweight.  It increased by 17,002.50 metric tons from the first quarter of 2024 production which recorded 170,918.62 metric tons, liveweight. The noted increase was equivalent to 9.9 percent. (Table 1)

•    Across the country, Central Luzon remained to be the top chicken-producing region, contributing more than one-third or 34.1 percent to the total volume of chicken production nationwide. CALABARZON registered as the second highest producer with 104,905.88 metric tons, liveweight, accounting to 19.1 percent share. Northern Mindanao followed as the third largest producing region with 46,572.83 metric tons, liveweight, sharing 8.5 percent to the total chicken production. (Figure 1 and Table 2)

Central Luzon Lead the Country in Duck Production
•    Central Luzon’s total duck production in January to March 2025 registered at 1,418.42 metric tons, liveweight.  It increased by 5.90 metric tons, liveweight or 0.4 percent change compared to the first quarter of 2024 with a recorded production of 1,412.52 metric tons, liveweight. (Table 1)  

• Central Luzon continued to be the top-producer of duck, contributing 22.0 percent, nationwide. SOCCSKSARGEN ranked second, producing 1,036.98 metric tons, representing 16.1 percent share. Cagayan Valley followed with 683.46 metric tons or an equivalent share of 10.6 percent in the national production. (Figure 2 and Table 2)

Central Luzon’s Chicken Egg Production Increased by 6.4 Percent

•    In the first quarter of 2025, the total volume of chicken egg production in Central Luzon was reported at 35,993.05 metric tons. It increased by 1,451.49 metric tons compared to the produce in January to March 2024 with 34,541.56 metric tons, making the region the second highest chicken egg producer in the country. (Table 1)

•    At the national level, CALABARZON was the top chicken egg-producing region from January to March 2025, with a production of 62,991.69 metric tons, contributing 31.2 percent to the total chicken egg output. Central Visayas ranked third with 21,125.79 metric tons production, accounting for 10.5 percent of the total chicken egg output. (Figure 3 and Table 2)

Central Luzon Remained the Top Duck Egg-Producing Region

•    From January to March 2025, the total volume of duck egg production in Central Luzon was recorded at 6,865.04 metric tons. It decreased by 441.11 metric tons, or an equivalent of 6.0 percent decline from the 7,306.15 metric tons production in the same quarter of 2024. (Table 1)    

•    Despite the decrease Central Luzon continued to top the country’s production, sharing 54.9 percent to the national production of 12,504.50 metric tons in the first quarter of 2025. Northern Mindanao ranked second highest producer of duck egg with 839.06 metric tons. It contributed 6.7 percent to the country’s total volume of duck egg production. Negros Island Region (NIR) followed in the third place, producing 706.78 metric tons and accounted for 5.7 percent share of the nationwide total volume of duck egg production from January to March 2025. (Table 2)

•    Among the Island Groups, Luzon shared 70.0 percent or 8,751.48 metric tons to the total duck egg production.  Mindanao accounted for 19.0 percent share, while Visayas comprised the remaining 11.0 percent to the country’s duck egg production. (Figure 4)

TECHNICAL NOTES
VOLUME OF POULTRY PRODUCTION

This Special Release presents the data on volume of poultry production for January to March 2025 from the Livestock and Poultry Survey: Household (LPS:H) and Livestock and Poultry Survey: Establishment (LPS: E) in Central Luzon.  Data are presented at the regional level by commodity in Table 1.  Also, data are presented by region and by commodity in Table 2.  

The LPS:H and LPS:E are two (2) major surveys conducted by PSA which aim to generate estimates on inventory, number of animals disposed, average farmgate price, egg production of poultry animals, milk production of dairy animals and other related data at the household level (LPS:H) and to estimates on supply, disposition and other related data of livestock and poultry commodities from establishments (LPS:E). 
 

Definition of Terms
Volume of Production (operational definition) - the number of tended/raised animals disposed for slaughter including animals shipped-out for slaughter (in “head/bird” and in “liveweight equivalent”).
Poultry - a collective term for all domesticated avian for the purpose of food consumption or, the carcass of such avian are processed for human consumption from household and establishment.
Backyard farm/raiser - refers to household raising at least one head of animal or bird and does not qualify as an establishment.
Animal Population (also Animal Inventory) - the actual number of animals (in head/bird) present in the household (LPS:H) or establishment (LPS:E) as of a specific reference date regardless of ownership. 
Household – A person or group of persons who sleep under the same dwelling unit and usually have a common arrangement in the preparation and consumption of food.
Establishment - an economic unit which engages under a single ownership or control, i.e., under a single legal entity; in one or predominantly one kind of economic activity at a single fixed physical location. Thus, stores, shops, factories, mining companies, electric plants, transport companies, radio stations, hotels, restaurants, banks, insurance companies, real estate development companies and the like are considered establishments. For this survey, L&P establishments are establishments engaged in the raising (farming) and breeding of livestock and poultry animals in an establishment. Also, traders such as assemblers, distributors, etc. will be excluded in the survey.
