Volume of Production

Nueva Ecija's total corn production for the fourth quarter of 2024 reached 5,271.50 metric tons (MT), recording a 10.3% increase compared to the 4,777.50 MT produced in the same quarter of 2023.

Corn Production

• Hybrid corn production increased from 4,080.00 MT in 2023 to 4,204.00 MT in 2024, reflecting a 3.0% growth.
• Modern Open Pollinated Variety (OPV) production saw a significant increase of 53.0%, rising from 697.50 MT to 1,067.50 MT.
• Native OPV corn production remained at zero for both years.
• White corn production increased by 74.4%, from 1,417.50 MT in 2023 to 2,471.50 MT in 2024.
    o Hybrid white corn production almost doubled, reaching 1,404.00 MT from 720.00 MT in 2023.
    o Modern OPV white corn production increased from 697.50 MT to 1,067.50 MT.
• Yellow corn production declined by 16.7%, dropping from 3,360.00 MT in 2023 to 2,800.00 MT in 2024.
    o The entire yellow corn production came from hybrid varieties.(Figure 1 to 4)

Area Harvested

The total corn area harvested in Nueva Ecija expanded from 930.00 hectares (Ha) in 2023 to 1,200.00 Ha in 2024, showing a 29.0% increase.
• Hybrid corn area increased from 705.00 Ha to 850.00 Ha, reflecting a 20.6% rise.
• Modern OPV corn area grew by 55.6%, from 225.00 Ha to 350.00 Ha.
• Native OPV remained at zero hectares.
• White corn area harvested significantly increased by 77.8%, from 450.00 Ha in 2023 to 800.00 Ha in 2024.
    o Hybrid white corn area doubled from 225.00 Ha to 450.00 Ha.
    o Modern OPV white corn area increased from 225.00 Ha to 350.00 Ha.
• Yellow corn area harvested declined from 480.00 Ha in 2023 to 400.00 Ha in 2024, an overall 16.7% decrease.
    o Hybrid yellow corn area also dropped proportionally from 480.00 Ha to 400.00 Ha. (Figure 5).

Yield per Hectare

The overall corn yield per hectare in Nueva Ecija dropped from 5.14 metric tons per hectare (MT/Ha) in 2023 to 4.39 MT/Ha in 2024, a 14.6% decrease.

• Hybrid corn yield decreased from 5.79 MT/Ha to 4.95 MT/Ha.
• Modern OPV corn yield showed a slight decrease from 3.10 MT/Ha in 2023 to 3.05 MT/Ha in 2024.
• White corn yield slightly declined from 3.15 MT/Ha in 2023 to 3.09 MT/Ha in 2024.
    o Hybrid white corn yield decreased from 3.20 MT/Ha to 3.12 MT/Ha.
    o Modern OPV white corn yield slightly dropped from 3.10 MT/Ha to 3.05 MT/Ha.
• Yellow corn yield remained stable at 7.00 MT/Ha in both years.
    o Hybrid yellow corn maintained its productivity at 7.00 MT/Ha.(Figure 6).
