More than half of the total registered deaths occurred at home
In 2023, 43,168 or 53.0 percent of the total deaths occurred at home, while 37,879 or 46.5 percent died in any health facility. A few died in places other than home and health facilities, such as on the street, in public places, on board a vehicle, airplane or vessel while in transit, among others which accounts for 0.6 percent of the total deaths, while a very small portion (0.004 percent share) of deaths have undetermined or unspecified sites because of the missing information in the place of death of the decedent.
Among the seven provinces and two Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs), the City of Olongapo (75.6 percent), City of Angeles (58.1 percent), Bataan (54.9 percent) and Pampanga (50.3 percent) had more deaths that occurred in health facilities than any other site of occurrence. (Figure 7, Table 7)

Six out of ten infant deaths were male
Out of 2,808 infant deaths registered in 2023, 1,634 (58.2 percent share) were male.
Bulacan had the highest number of registered infant deaths with 1,148 or 40.9 percent, followed by Nueva Ecija with 452 or 16.1 percent, and Tarlac with 341 (12.1 percent).
On the other hand, the City of Olongapo had the least number of registered infant deaths with 48 or 1.7 percent. (Figure 8, Figure 9, Table 3, and Table 8)


Majority of maternal deaths were among women aged 30 to 34
In 2023, a total of 204 women were identified as having died of maternal causes in the region.
Among all seven provinces and two Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs), Bulacan recorded the highest number of registered maternal deaths with 63 or 30.9 percent, followed by Nueva Ecija with 43 or 21.1 percent, and Pampanga with 34 or 16.7 percent
On the other hand, the City of Olongapo recorded the least number of registered maternal deaths, with 4 or 2.0 percent.
The majority of women who died of maternal causes were aged 30 to 34 (46 or 23 percent). (Figure 10, Figure 11, Table 3, and Table 9)


Bulacan recorded the highest number of fetal deaths
In 2023, a total of 924 registered fetal deaths were reported. By the usual residence of the mother, Bulacan had the highest number with 381 cases or 41.2 percent of the total number of fetal deaths. This was followed by Pampanga with 139 or 15.0 percent and Nueva Ecija with 118 or 12.8 percent.
More than half of the registered fetal deaths were male (511 or 55.3 percent). (Figure 12, Figure 13, Table 3, and Table 10)
