More than half of the total registered deaths occurred at home
In 2022, 44,207 or 56.7 percent of the total deaths occurred at home while 32,580 or 41.8 percent died in any health facility. A few (1.5 percent share) died in places other than home and health facilities, such as on the street, in public places, on board a vehicle, airplane or vessel while in transit, among others. A very small portion (0.003 percent share) of deaths have undetermined or unspecified sites because of the missing information in the place of death of the decedent.
Among the seven provinces and two Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs), the City of Olongapo (71.5 percent), City of Angeles (52.1 percent), and Bataan (51.4 percent) had more deaths that occurred in health facilities than any other site of occurrence. (Figure 7, Table 7)
Six out of ten infant deaths were male
Out of 2,529 infant deaths registered in 2022, 1,438 (56.9 percent share) were male.
Bulacan had the highest number of registered infant deaths with 960 or 38.0 percent, followed by Nueva Ecija with 475 or 18.8 percent, and Pampanga with 340 (13.4 percent).
On the other hand, Aurora had the least number of registered infant deaths with 30 or 1.2 percent. (Figure 8, Figure 9, Table 3, and Table 8)
Majority of maternal deaths were among women aged 30 to 34
In 2022, a total of 196 women were identified as having died of maternal causes in the region.
Among all seven provinces and two Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs), Bulacan recorded the highest number of registered maternal deaths with 57 or 29.1 percent, followed by Nueva Ecija with 51 or 26.0 percent, and Pampanga with 23 or 11.7 percent
On the other hand, Aurora with 5 or 2.6 percent had the least number of registered maternal deaths.
Majority of women who died of maternal causes were aged 30 to 34 (47 or 24 percent). (Figure 10, Figure 11, Table 3, and Table 9)
Bulacan recorded the highest number of fetal deaths
In 2022, a total of 920 registered fetal deaths were reported. By usual residence of mother, Bulacan had the highest number with 325 cases or 35.3 percent of the total number of fetal deaths. This was followed by Pampanga with 157 or 17.1 percent and Nueva Ecija with 149 or 16.2 percent.
More than half of the registered fetal deaths were male (489 or 53.2 percent). (Figure 12, Figure 13, Table 3, and Table 10)

1. REGLEMENTARY PERIOD - prescribed period within which an event should be registered
2. TIMELY REGISTRATION STATUS - Civil Registry documents are registered within the 30-day reglementary period after the occurrence
3. LATE REGISTRATION STATUS - Civil Registry documents are registered beyond the 30-day reglementary period
4. DAILY INDEX refers to the increase or decrease from the overall daily average of event occurrences.
5. ATTENDANT-AT-DEATH refers to a private physician, public health officer, hospital authority, or any other allied health care provider who attended the deceased.
6. INFANT DEATH refers to the death that occurred before reaching age 1.
7. A MATERNAL DEATH is defined by the World Health Organization as, “the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and the site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management, but not from accidental or incidental causes.”
8. FETAL DEATH refers to the death of a fetus irrespective of the duration of pregnancy prior to complete expulsion or extraction of a product of conception from the mother’s womb.
