Volume of Fisheries Production in Central Luzon Second Quarter 2021

Central Luzon’s total volume of fisheries production increased by 0.6 percent in the second quarter of 2021

The region’s total fisheries production was posted at 140.8 thousand metric tons for the second quarter of 2021 recording 838.5 metric tons increase compared to its production in 2020. The increases were attributed by the increments in the commercial and municipal fisheries at 7.1 percent and 23.4 percent, respectively. On the other hand, lower production was reported for aquaculture fisheries the second quarter of 2021. (Table 1)

Commercial fisheries production increased by 7.1 percent

The commercial fisheries production in the region was recorded at 734.5 metric tons in the second quarter of 2021. It posted 48.6 metric tons increment from 685.9 metric tons in 2020. (Figure 1)

Total municipal fisheries production rose by 23.4 percent

The total production of municipal fisheries in Central Luzon increased to
21.2 thousand metric tons in 2021 from 17.2 thousand metric tons in 2020. (Table 1)

Marine municipal fisheries which accounted for 56.9 percent of the total municipal fisheries recorded 14.6 percent decline. Meanwhile, inland fisheries production almost tripled to 9.1 thousand metric tons in 2021 from 3.1 thousand metric tons in 2020. Specifically, total inland fish production rose to 5.9 thousand metric tons from
2.4 thousand metric tons. In the same manner, increments were also recorded for inland crustaceans and molluscs registering 2,580.3 metric tons and 64.9 metric tons increase, respectively. (Table 1c and 1d)

Aquaculture fisheries production declined by 2.6 percent

The volume of harvest from aquaculture farms was estimated at 118.9 thousand metric tons in the second quarter of 2021. Freshwater fishpond accounted for 29.3 percent of the total aquaculture production whereas marine cage posted 25.5 percent share. Furthermore, marine cage production recorded 38.0 percent increment from its production in 2020. Meanwhile, oyster production was listed at 24,948.7 metric tons in the second quarter of 2021 registering 13,851 metric tons decrease. (Figure 3)
