Consumer Price Index of Tarlac
Headline inflation in the Province of Tarlac increased to 7.7 percent in September 2022, after a decrease in last month. With this month’s inflation, the province’s average inflation from January to September 2022 stood at 5.4 percent. In September 2021, inflation rate was posted at 6.3 percent. (Table A and Figure 1)
The increase in province’s inflation was mainly brought about by the increase in the index for commodity group of Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and other Fuels at 14.9 percent, from 13.6 percent in the previous month. This was followed by Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages at 6.8 percent, from 5.0 percent in the previous month. Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance also increased at 6.6 percent, from 5.6 percent in the previous month. This was followed by Clothing and Footwear whose index increased to 3.3 percent, from 2.9 percent in the previous month. The index for Health also increased to 2.0 percent, from 1.8 percent in the previous month. This was followed by Education Services at 2.7 percent, from 2.5 percent in the previous month.
On the other hand, the index for commodity group of Transport decreased at 11.9 percent, from 12.2 percent in the previous month. This was followed by Recreation, Sport and Culture with slight decreased at 6.9 percent, from 7.0 percent in the previous month.
Meanwhile, commodity groups that retained their previous month’s inflation rate are the following:
a. Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, 10.4 percent;
b. Information and Communication, 1.0 percent;
c. Restaurants and Accommodation Services, 1.9 percent;
d. Financial Services, 0.0 percent;
e. Personal Care, and Miscellaneous Goods and Services, 3.7 percent.
The annual growth rate of the rice index went up to 2.3 percent during the month, from 0.9 percent in the previous month. Meanwhile, corn index retained its previous month’s growth rate at 13.1 percent. The following items for food commodity groups that showed increase during the month were Flour, Bread and other Bakery Products, Pasta Products, and other Cereals at 12.4 percent, from 11.3 percent in the previous month. This was followed by Meat and Other Parts of Slaughtered Land Animals at 8.3 percent, from 6.8 in the previous month. Fish and Other Seafood at 8.5 percent, from 4.1 percent in the previous month. Milk, Other Dairy Products, and Eggs at 12.2 percent, from 10.8 percent in the previous month. The index for Sugar, Confectionery and Desserts also increased to 27.9 percent, from 27.0 percent in the previous month.
On the other hand, the following food groups exhibited an decreased in annual growth during the month:
a. Oils and Fats at 22.7 percent, from 22.8 percent in the previous month;
b. Fruits and Nuts at -1.7 percent, from 1.2 percent in the previous month.

In Central Luzon, the province of Zambales had the highest inflation rate for the month of September 2022 with 10.4 percent. This was followed by the province of Nueva Ecija with 10.0 percent, province of Bataan with 9.2 percent, province of Aurora with 8.9 percent, followed by the province of Tarlac with 7.7, and the province of Pampanga at 7.5 percent.
However, the province of Bulacan had the least inflation rate posted at 3.9 percent.
