PALAY AND CORN SITUATION IN PAMPANGA: JANUARY TO MARCH 2022
Palay production in Pampanga reached 164,779.19 metric tons in the first quarter of 2022. An increase of 12.77 percent compared to same period last year from a total of 146,117.99 metric tons. The increase was primarily due to good weather condition and seeds subsidies given by Department of Agriculture this quarter thru their Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund Program and as well as fertilizer assistance.
In the province of Pampanga, the total area harvested was estimated at 32,695 hectares in the first quarter of 2022, which is 11.43 percent higher than the 2021 estimate of the same period.
The corn production in Pampanga in the 1st quarter reached 46,813.37 metric tons lower by 13.68 percent compared to same period last year. The decrease in production was due to less farmers planted corn this year compared last year due to high price of fertilizer. But in terms of type of corn, white corn increased by 179 percent since this is the start of peak season. For the yellow corn, there was a slight decrease by 21 percent since the peak for this type comes in the second quarter of 2022.
In Pampanga, the total corn area harvested for the first quarter of 2022 was 8,005.00 hectares. This was 7.74 percent lower than the total corn harvested in 2021 of the same quarter.
Palay and Corn Production Survey is a quarterly agricultural survey conducted by Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). These generate estimates and forecasts on palay and corn production, area, yield and other production related data that serve as inputs for policy making and programs on palay/rice.
These are quarterly surveys which cover sample farming households in sample barangays in all provinces except Batanes and include Zamboanga and Davao City.
Production refers to the quality produced and actually harvested for a particular crop during the reference period. For palay and corn, harvest area refers to the actual area harvested during the reference quarter.
Area harvested is the actual area from which harvests are realized.
Yield is an indicator of productivity derived by total production by the area harvested.
