Central Luzon’s annual inflation rate for bottom 30 percent income households continued to rise from 6.3 percent in December 2020 to 7.2 percent in January 2021. Central Luzon ranked the 11th highest among the 17 regions in the country. Cagayan Valley posted the highest inflation rate at 4.0 percent, while Zamboanga Peninsula still recorded the lowest inflation rate at -0.1 percent. The annual inflation rate for bottom 30% income households in Central Luzon recorded a 0.3 percentage points decreased from 3.6 percent in July 2020 to 3.3 percent in August 2020. Among regions in the country with the highest inflation rate, Central Luzon ranked fifth.  Central Visayas remained with the highest inflation rate at 4.1 percent. Central Luzon’s annual inflation rate for the bottom 30 percent income households declined from 4.1 percent in January 2020 to 3.9 percent in February 2020.   For February 2020, the region’s inflation rate is second to the highest annual rate in the country. The highest inflation rate was registered in BARMM at 5.3 percent, while Cordillera Administrative Region reported no movement on its price index in February 2020. The annual inflation rate for bottom 30% income households in Central Luzon recorded a 1.3 percentage points increase from 2.8 percent in December 2019 to 4.1 percent in January 2020.  Among regions, Central Luzon ranked second to the highest inflation rate in the country alongside with CALABARZON and Bicol Region.  Cordillera Administrative Region, on the other hand, had the lowest inflation rate at negative 0.1 percent.  BARMM remained with the highest inflation rate in the country at 5.7 percent. Central Luzon’s year-on-year inflation for the bottom 30 percent income households rose by 4.3 percent in the second quarter of 2018. It was posted at     3.6 percent on the previous quarter and 3.0 percent on the same period in 2017. The increase was mainly driven by the 4.5 percent annual mark-up registered in the heavily-weighted food, beverage and tobacco index. The average inflation for the bottom 30 percent income households decelerated by 2.8 percent in the third quarter of 2017 from the 3.0 percent during the second quarter, the decline was due to the slower growth posted for most of the commodity groups.
